“It is vain for you to rise early, to retire late, to eat the bread of anxious labors, for He gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep.”
(Psalm 127:2, AMP)
Sometimes, we find it difficult to rest because we are still thinking about everything that needs to be done.
Unfinished work.
Bills that need to be paid.
Things we need to fix.
Plans for tomorrow.
We may be physically tired, but our minds are still working. But today’s bible verse reminds us that constant striving is not the source of our provision. God is.
By all means, work hard, plan well and do what is required of you, but you also need to know when to stop, rest and be refreshed.
Simply be still.
Meditate on: “For He gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep.” (Psalm 127:2, AMP)
Reflect
- What am I trying to do more of because I am afraid things will not work out?
- What am I still thinking about that can wait until tomorrow?
- What am I thinking about that I can’t do anything about?
Release
Take a few deep breaths, close your eyes and visualize yourself releasing the unfinished tasks, plans and concerns of today into God’s hands.
Then remind yourself that:
- You have done what I can today.
- God is still at work.
- You can rest.
- You don’t have to stay awake trying to solve everything tonight.
Let your body rest.
Let your mind rest.
Trust God to take care of what you cannot do while you sleep.
Have a good night.
